CT Studd came from a wealthy family, was educated at Eton and Cambridge, and played cricket for England. He turned his back on fame and fortune to become a missionary in China.
He later served God in India and Africa and famously said “If Jesus Christ be God and died for me, then no sacrifice can be too great for me to make for Him.” David Livingstone was a pioneering missionary doctor who carried the Gospel into the heart of Africa in the 19th century.
His journeys filled huge gaps in western knowledge about the continent of Africa. One of his many discoveries was a spectacular waterfall which he named, ‘Victoria Falls.’ Livingstone also spoke out publicly against the slave trade and provided medical assistance to those he met on his travels. Billy Graham preached to over 210 million people in 185 different countries.
In Scotland he filled huge venues such as the Kelvin Hall (every night for 6 weeks!), Ibrox Stadium, Tynecastle Stadium and Hampden Park (where 100,000 attended!) in 1955, and Celtic Park and Pittodrie Stadium in 1991. |
